Something To Get Excited About…
Posted on January 9th, 2008 | by dade |In Just last semester, quite a number of my friends and acquaintances; dorm mates, friends in church, coursemates etc got themselves laptops. And I felt that was an encouraging trend, but you know, O.A.U. has always has this thing for I.T. so I didn’t want to be quick in extrapolating to conclude that computer acquisition in other quarters too was on the increase.
But then I met a guy from unaab recently who told me that the exact trend obtains in unaab; that boyz are getting laptops too…
Then I got excited. I mean, the fact that Nigerian youths are having access to personal computing en masse is something to be really really excited about. It means we are approaching a critical mass of user base that will start precipitating home brewed apps and services.
As more guys have access to the gadget, we have more that will start tinkering with it and learning how to do and build stuffs with it…
So I am pretty excited…
But then, this will only be so if boyz don’t just treat their PC’s like another dumb terminal; only to watch DVD’S (prison break, Lost et al), listen to music and play Games on but as a tool for creating ’stuffs’
